Hi everyone,

With Google's recent (annoying) overhaul of the blogger account protocol and the fact that it's cumbersome to update our shows and stuff in more than one place anyway, we are going to stop updating this site. Band info., upcoming shows, songs, etc. can be found on our facebook page HERE or by logging into your facebook account and searching for "The Holland Dutch." Please become a fan if you haven't already and feel free to e-mail us if you'd like to be added to our mailing list.

We'll leave this page up just for fun until they take it down due to inactivity. It will be interesting to see how long that takes...

If you haven't been to charming Avondale Estates or to one of its finest art galleries, Alcove Arts, this is your chance to do both and enjoy art, music and food to boot!

The 3rd annual Art B Que, running Friday 6/11-Sunday 6/13, is a festival featuring an artist market, bands (of course!), a car show, kidzone (with jumpy castles, people!), and plenty of great food from local vendors such as Avondale Pizza Cafe, Fox Brothers Bar-B-Q, Farmstead 303, Farm Burger, and more.

Join us this Sunday, 3/14 at The Five Spot in Little Five Points as we raise money for the Girls Rock Camp (ATL). This special show not only benefits the camp -- a 6-day summer camp for girls age 10-16 which provides holistic encouragement, instruction, mentorship, and safer space for girls to express themselves through musical mediums -- but also gives some very generous and talented women agea 19 and over the chance of a lifetime: to learn an instrument, form a band, and perform live on stage!

The show will be the culmination of a full weekend of hard work for these ladies, who will perform live, many of them for the first time, on the Five Spot stage. Doors open at 5:30pm for this all-ages early show. We are headlining, followed by a fantastic raffle you don't want to miss. Previous years' raffles have included gift certificates to many of your favorite local restaurants and retailers, Indigo Girls memorabilia, and even a flying V guitar! Come early to buy tickets and stay late for the drawing, which will take place immediately after our set.

Please come out to support this wonderful camp and these talented ladies who have given their time and donations to put the FUN in fundraiser!

R.I.P. Spanky Twangler

We are so sad to report that our dear friend (and former bandmate for some of us), Brian Rogers, aka Spanky Twangler, passed away on Monday after a 7-month battle with esophageal and liver cancer. He was 39 and is survived by his wife, 3 young daughters, his parents, and extended family.

Right up until the end, Brian was hopeful, faithful, and full of strength, so while we all knew in our hearts that his passing was a distinct possibility, he was focused on a miracle and no one wanted to accept anything less. I guess that has made it a bit harder to believe that he is really gone. We are so thankful for the time we were able to spend with him both during his fight and over the past 19 years that we have been friends.

He was an inspiration to so many people throughout his life, bringing joy to countless people as a rhythm and lead guitarist (The Penetrators) and most recently publishing a blog about his experience with cancer and treatment that was read by thousands of people around the world, (Brian's Updates).

We will miss him tremendously and we know that musicians in the Atlanta and Tuscaloosa/Birmingham music scenes and in the surf music scene worldwide all share in our loss. Thank you for your friendship and your music, Spanky. We love you.

500 Songs For Kids Raised Over $40,000!!!

Save Paste Magazine!

Paste is pretty much the best music magazine in the country, if not the world, and we just can’t afford to lose it. They seek out new artists as well as giving props to established ones, regardless of their cool status. Their writers take the time to really craft a story no matter what the subject, creating a piece work that could stand alone anywhere but is a part of something greater in this magazine.

The magazine, like so many other publications, while having a fantastic subscriber base and dedicated readers, has really been hurting from the downturn of the economy, and therefore the loss in many advertising dollars. Though the group has expanded in many great ways, the funds that used to be there are drying up. While this will only be a temporary situation, it is clear that Paste is in desperate need of some help to hold them over until things start to look up again.

Here’s a link to the campaign, in which Paste is asking for donations. In return, donors will get (in addition to the satisfying feeling of saving a great company) a ton of rare mp3s from some ace musicians:

Artists include The Decemberists, Neko Case, She & Him, Cowboy Junkies, Of Montreal, Indigo Girls, Jayhawks, String Cheese Incident, G. We're very excited to be participating in this year's 500 Songs For Kids at Smith's Olde Bar. This 10-day live music marathon runs from April 30th to May 9th. This year, we will be counting down the 500 MOST PASSIONATE SONGS OF ALL TIME with 500 DIFFERENT ARTISTS in the largest musician involved charity event ever in Georgia, bringing together roughly 1,500 individually performing musicians.

Come out for as many nights of the benefit as you can, but be sure to catch THD performing "More Than This" by Roxy Music on Wednesday, May 6th.

Please join us this Thursday, 3.26 and Friday, 3.27 for an incredible show to benefit Brian Rogers and his family. Brian, fellow bandmate and great friend, was recently diagnosed and is undergoing treatment for esophageal and liver cancer. We're so happy to report that he is doing great and is making wonderful progress in beating this thing. In fact, Brian plans to be at the show Friday night to perform and we are ecstatic!

The Holland Dutch will play Thursday night at 11pm and our drummer Elliott will make numerous appearances with his various and sundry musical outfits (Myopic i, The Surge, and of course The Penetrators) both nights.

Please join us for one or both nights -- a great time is guaranteed (just look at these lineups!) and all proceeds go to help Brian and his family with their medical expenses. Thanks in advance for your support.

For those who don't know, one band originally on the bill that will unfortunately not be able to join in the festivities is The Penetrators, surf legends in their own right. The band's guitarist and our dear friend Brian Rogers (aka Spanky Twangler) began chemo treatment this week for esophageal cancer. Raise a glass with us in honor of him and toast his strength and determination to beat this thing. Proceeds from the door will go to start a fund to assist Brian and his family with expenses not covered by insurance. We'll also have some fun "cancer sucks" merch for sale at the show with all proceeds going to the Twangler fund. You can preview the goods here.

Cold Front

I am not a morning person. I am also not a winter person. And sometimes at this time of year when the weather starts changing and I swear I can already see winter mocking me from around the corner, I get a little grumpy. But not this year. There's simply too much exciting stuff to look forward to in the coming months. Suffice it to say, there's a cold front moving in today... and it feels good!

We have several new songs that we will be debuting at our upcoming shows as soon as the lovely Miss Courtney King returns from her almost month-long trip abroad. We also hope to record them soon and post some of them on our MySpace page. Stay tuned...

We have a great show lined up to celebrate Courtney's return stateside. We'll be opening for Cordero, former Daemon Records labelmates of Courtney's and mine from our Moto-Litas days. We're so excited to see that they've been enjoying great success on their current US tour and can't wait to join them onstage at the EARL on October 9th.

We are also VERY excited to announce that we'll be opening for Amy Ray herself for the only hometown date on her fall solo tour! Amy's new album, Didn't It Feel Kinder, is an incredible collection of songs and you will not want to miss the live show. We'll have more details closer to the show, but please mark your calendars for Saturday, November 22nd at the Variety Playhouse. Advance tickets are on sale now!

See THD live... in your living room?

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology (and Comcast OnDemand) you can now enjoy two live performances of The Holland Dutch from the comfort of your own living room!

It's true! But, like most good things, there is a catch: you must be a Comcast Cable subscriber with Digital Channel 1 OnDemand service. If you're not, that's ok. You can still watch the show from the comfort of your desk chair. We will have clips up on YouTube with links from this site very soon.

In the meantime, if you have Comcast OnDemand (or know someone who does and who would gladly hand you their remote if you showed up with a 6-pack), just follow these simple steps:

In this day and age of downloads, we can't forget about our good friends at our local music stores. They're keeping it real, giving independent musicians a place to sell their music.

Our friends at Criminal Records, Wax 'n Facts, Wuxtry, and Low Yo Yo Stuff have graciously offered to carry our music, so please visit them if you'd like to buy one of our CDs, or anything else for that matter.

Wanna be on TV?

The Holland Dutch are playing this Tuesday, April 1st at Smith's Olde Bar and filming for Comcast Bands on Demand. This is no April Fool's joke, either! We start at 10pm sharp and we will be filmed for the popular local feature. Come stand up front and cheer for us and you might get to be on TV, too!

This is also a great chance to see 9 great local bands for one low cover price -- it's only 5 bucks! Doors open at 7, so come early and see everyone! Here's the lineup:

Our new CD is here!!

All hail UPS. I never thought I would say that, considering that most everything they bring to my door is either broken or otherwise damaged... but I'm temporarily lifting my personal ban on them to thank them for getting our CDs here A) in time for our big show at eyedrum this past Saturday and B) unharmed. Woo hoo!

So now begins all of the excitement that is getting a CD out there for sale. We've started the process, so you should be able to pick up "Self-Starter" in your fabulous local record stores, online (both iTunes downloads and physical CD purchases), and even at the big chains very soon. It takes a little time for all of that to happen, though, so our official CD release won't be until April. Stay tuned for details...

However, far be it from us to withhold the rock! We would never tease you like that. So if you just can't stand it any longer, please send us a message (either via myspace or directly to hello@thehollanddutch.com) and we'll let you know how you can get an advance copy or copies now! Of course, we will always have them for sale at our shows, along with other fun THD swag and our mailing list, which we sincerely hope you'll join. So come on out to see us!

Hallo from The Holland Dutch!

Het Hallo,

As some of you have already heard, the music bug has bitten me again. I just can't stay away for long! About 6 months ago, Courtney King (formerly my bandmate in The Moto-Litas) and I got together and started working on some new songs. About 3 months ago, we relieved Elliott of his practice night daddy duties by hiring a sitter and coaxing him into the basement to play drums with us. What's one more band, right? The Penetrators, The Surge, and now... The Holland Dutch!

That's right, The Holland Dutch. We're neither Dutch nor from Holland, but we liked the way the name sounded, so we went with it.

Now we're ready to break out of the basement and our friends Can-Can have graciously offered us the opening slot for their show with The Hiss this coming Wednesday, August 29th at ISP in East Atlanta. We're very excited and would love for you to come check out the show.

If you haven't been to ISP before, it's a couple of doors down to the right of the EARL and I hear it's the new hot spot for cool local bands. We will kick things off at 9pm sharp. Hope to see you there!
